M2 Barclay Rd Bridge

As part of the widening of the M2 motorway it required some delicate work around the Barclay Rd Bridge. The need to excavate the  sandstone batters back to the bridge supports without causing structural damage required a precise, low vibratory approach while still meeting a strict timeframe. Not only was an Erkat ER1200 mounted on a Komatsu PC228 able to achieve the finished profile required, it also provided the innovative use of profiled drainage slots in the batter to feed stormwater down to the kerbside guttering.  Erkat ER1200 were used extensively on the M2 upgrade to excavate & profile the  sandstone batters, reducing over excavation & possibility of fracturing in the rock face.
